an exploration of comfort

statement

As a jewelry artist, the concept of adornment has always interested me because of its connection to the body within its physicality. The tangibles and intangibles between the body are more connected than imagined within each contour and curve presented. Through my artistry of metal, I explore the body as a vessel of memory and emotion—a sacred space of stories untold.

With a natural color palette, my creative journey seeks the significance of adorning parts of the body that aren’t naturally beautified. Places such as the spine, inner arms, and mouth are elegantly displayed with embellishments that draw attention to an intimate area. Through the artistry of hand-carving cast pieces, I endeavor to recreate the intricate details of human and natural anatomy as a form of imagery. These carvings come in the form of human bones and organs as well as animals and plants that lie in these areas of vulnerability. They often reflect and represent the echoes of shame, fear, protectiveness, and acknowledgment that touch the most sensitive parts of the body. I am captivated by the intricate interplay between memory, emotion, and physicality, exploring the layers that bind them together. Each embellishment carries a story of remembrance that connects a recognition of the human experience. I seek to honor these connections that transcend boundaries by adornment in ways that share stories through the body and introduce new conversations of jewelry.

Through my art, I aspire to evoke a profound sense of introspection, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of their own memories, trace the contours of their own stories, and memorialize the beauty inherent in the human figure. In this shared journey of exploration and discovery, I find inspiration in the boundless possibilities of connection within the body.
